Great content.
Leaky
funnel.

Learnhall had built genuinely strong course content. The problem wasn't the lessons — it was everything between signing up and actually learning. Students were quietly dropping off at nearly every step, and by day seven, most of them simply hadn't come back.

The brief wasn't to add more features. It was to find every point of friction in the path from "signed up" to "genuinely learning," and remove it — one screen at a time.

Three decisions
that stopped the bleeding.

A leaky onboarding flow is rarely one bad screen. It's a handful of small frictions that compound. These were the calls that mattered most.

01
Cut steps before adding polish

The instinct with a UI brief is to make every screen prettier. We resisted that. Before redesigning a single screen, we removed the two setup steps that were doing the most damage — they weren't ugly, they were unnecessary.

5 → 3 onboarding steps
02
Design for the return, not the first click

A good first impression doesn't make a student come back on day seven. We mapped the moments that actually predict return — finishing a first lesson, a well-timed nudge — and designed around those instead.

03
Test on real students, every cycle

Five rounds of usability testing with actual students, not assumptions about them. Each round surfaced friction the team hadn't seen — and each fix was validated before it shipped, not after.

5 test cycles

Where students were leaving. And where they stayed.

Five steps between sign-up and a returning student on day seven. We measured every one — then redesigned the ones bleeding the most.

2.1× improvement at the step that defines
"onboarded" — sign-up to first lesson complete.

Students who
actually stayed.

54% 7-Day Course Completion

A direct lift in the share of students completing a course within their first week — the single clearest signal that the redesign reached the right friction points.

2.1× Onboarding Conversion

More than double the students now make it from sign-up to a completed first lesson — the step that had been bleeding the most before the redesign.

3.2× Day-7 Return Rate

Students aren't just finishing a first lesson — they're coming back. The habit-loop redesign more than tripled return visits at the one-week mark.

Student Confidence

Usability sessions after launch surfaced a consistent theme: students felt like they knew what to do next. That clarity is what the entire redesign was built to produce.

Students stopped disappearing after day one. They started coming back — and finishing what they started.
